Leaving care service - money matters to you

Our promises to you for money.
  • if you live in Derbyshire, our borough/district councils support you with a 100% discount on your council tax bill until you are 25
  • we will practically help you set up home and support you with a £2000 grant to help towards a deposit, white goods and furniture costs. We hope to increase this budget by April 2023 to £2500
  • we will fund your TV licence until you are 21
  • you can get 70% off your water bill if you live in the area covered by Severn Trent Water
  • if you live outside Derbyshire, we will fund your council tax until you are 25. (after you have applied for other discounts)
  • we will fund up to 6 weeks of Universal Credit equivalent payments for a single person whilst you apply
  • if you are on Universal Credit, you can get 6 months free Wi-Fi with EE
  • we support with accommodation costs when choosing to go to university up to the age of 25
  • if you are on a full-time training course or apprenticeship, the Local Authority will ensure that you are no worse off than if you were claiming benefits
  • we offer you help to manage your money with budgeting sessions and careful money management
  • we support you using the ‘Resettlement Passport’ to learn to manage your tenancy and bills
  • access to your Junior ISA – all children in care get this.  We can help you access this so you can save money for you and your family's future
  • we work with agencies and partners who also help with budgeting courses and skills workshops
