Be a social worker for adults

We're committed to attracting social workers to engage with and encourage the participation of adults across Derbyshire.


Good social work can transform people's lives through the promotion of individual strengths and protect them from harm and there are lots of good reasons to be a social worker in Derbyshire.

Working within our practice framework having proportionate conversations and interactions with people, you'll be supporting adults to live their lives in our local communities, establishing effective relationships with people, professionals in a range of agencies and settings and being the key connectors in communities.

You'll work with adults and younger people who are preparing for adulthood across a variety of settings.

We actively encourage individual professional leadership within our in our teams, which provides everyone within the team the opportunity to develop and share knowledge and practice within the team.

To help sustain and further develop a working environment where social work practice and social workers can flourish, you'll work within a team, be supported with regular, good quality one-to-one professional supervision, and have access to peer group discussions to support you in your decision-making and support planning.

You'll also receive an individual development plan and annual appraisal, to promote your individual developmental needs and work within a clearly defined social work practice framework.

Joined Up Care Derbyshire Integrated Care System is a collaboration between us and health and social care providers for adults and children across the county and city, including NHS providers and Derby City Council. Throughout Derbyshire we're undertaking an exciting time of transformation leading to the development of a number of integrated care offers which are co-designed, and include staff from health, social care and the voluntary sector. Service developments include multi-agency rapid response teams, mental health urgent care and the living well service.

We're active partners in the Derbyshire Safeguarding Adults Board and safeguarding is a regular duty alongside using your legal literacy to promote human rights and social justice.

We're one of the 10 partners in the award winning D2N2 Teaching Partnership Social Work Academy of Excellence with regular opportunities to contribute to the activities within our partner universities.

We welcome and support newly qualified social workers to progress in their career via the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) national programme, regular workshops, and leadership and peer support arrangements.

We support the development of experienced social workers through a progression framework and regular opportunities to train in specialist roles, including Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP), practice educator, mentors and Best Interest Assessors (BIA).

We're an ambitious and innovative authority with a strong commitment to building upon our existing workforce. We run a successful apprenticeship programme including social work, occupational therapy and leadership.

This role is eligible for a one-off welcome payment if you start between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024. Adult social workers will receive £1,500 pro rata, and approved mental health practitioner social workers will receive £2,500 pro rata in their first salary payment.
