Employee testimonial - Mark and Isaac, contract and compliance officers

Life is never quiet for the waste contract team, it offers countless opportunities to develop contract management and interpersonal skills as we maintain regular dialogue with the residents of Derbyshire who use our services, private sector contractors who provide these services and 9 partner waste collection or unitary authorities.

All aspects of contract management are handled by the team right from the point new contracts are advertised for tender, assessed and awarded, through to:

  • accounts and data management
  • regular liaison with contractor representatives on a formal and informal basis to ensure the service is delivered to a high standard
  • importantly, making sure effective routes of communication with our service users are maintained so if anything goes wrong it is addressed as quickly as possible and lessons learned for the future

Regular site meetings and inspection visits are undertaken by team members to ensure:

  • national environmental and waste legislation is complied with
  • our policies and procedures are observed
  • health and safety and duty of care obligations are observed

You will be part of a hard-working, friendly team with the opportunity to influence policy decisions and service delivery as we face the challenges of the future. You will meet and work with colleagues within the wider waste management team and elsewhere in the council, and external organisations, all with expertise in other fields such as climate change, learning new things as you go. This, allied to availability of job specific training, gives every opportunity for personal development and career progression.
