Processing planning applications

On receipt of a valid planning application we will publicise it and consult interested parties.

Publicity

We welcome the involvement of the public in the planning process and want to ensure that all those potentially affected by a proposal are aware of it.

You can search for current planning applications and publicity is carried out in a number of ways, depending on the specific application. This includes using site notices, sending letters to people neighbouring the application site or notices in local newspapers. Frequently we use more than one of these means.

You can submit your comments on applications using the comments box on our planning applications. Or email: planningrepresentations@derbyshire.gov.uk

We will acknowledge the receipt of your comments which will be taken into account when considering applications provided they raise planning issues.

Representations received will be published on our website. If you do not wish to have your personal details published please send them as attachments to emails or by omitting your signature from letters.

Consultations

We will consult a number of other bodies and organisations as part of the processing of a planning application and their comments will also be taken into account in reaching a decision.

Decisions on planning applications

Where an application does not give rise to planning policy objections, comments or representations do not contain valid planning objections which cannot be overcome by the imposition of conditions, the decision can be made by the strategic director of economy transport and environment.

Where there are planning policy objections or other unresolved planning objections, the decision will be made by our Regulatory Planning Committee which meets on a regular basis, usually every 3 weeks, to consider applications.

We allow objectors, supporters and applicants to address the committee in respect of any particular application.

Document accessibility

The planning services document attached to this page does not yet meet full accessibility requirements but we are working hard to ensure all of our online information is as accessible as possible.

If you need a more accessible version of this document please email development.management@derbyshire.gov.uk who will be happy to help.
